How to Tell if Your Double-Pane Windows Need to be Replaced

New double-pane windows provide a host of perks for homeowners in Gaithersburg, one being better energy efficiency. Regardless if you’re looking online or with an associate at a showroom, energy efficiency is a crucial factor in the purchasing process for replacement windows. Double-pane windows are a great product if you’re searching for improved efficiency.

A lot of new double-pane windows contain argon, a colorless, nontoxic gas that has a greater density than air, which offers additional insulation from heat and cold.. However, if you notice that your windows have become “foggy” or if they have developed condensation, you may have developed a greater leak and the gas has been substituted with moisture. There are two things that you can do to check to see if this is what’s occurred:

  1. Clean the exterior and interior portion of your glass to make sure that the condensation or fog you’re looking at is in between the glass, not on the glass.
  2. If you find out that the moisture is in fact between the glass, you can reach out to the manufacturer to determine if you can make a warranty claim.
Depending on how long your windows have been around and the conditions causing the leak, it may make sense to take a look at replacement windows. Insulation is one of the most important aspects of your windows, and if that is compromised it can change your heating and cooling expenses.
